Guarantees of finance for recovering and disposing of electric and electronic equipment

The EU WEEE Directive (on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) requires manufacturers and importers of electrical and electronic equipment to take back old appliances and ensure that they are disposed of in a correct and proper manner without harming the environment. Since 24 November 2005 it has also been necessary for them to provide a guarantee that the recycling costs will be borne; otherwise it is not allowed to continue marketing these products.

Aon Credit International and the Central Association for the Electrical and Electronic Industry (ZVEI) developed an insurance product, which was approved on 25 January 2006 by the Waste Electrical Equipment Register (EAR) Foundation, under which a full guarantee can be given without any individual risk categorisation or creditworthiness check, and which can be handled entirely online.

In addition to the insurance scheme, ZVEI-Services GmbH (ZSG) provides a trustee to guarantee recycling even when the insured event arises. This scheme is on offer both to ZVEI members and to non-members.

Your way to the ZVEI guarantee in four steps

1. Online registration of the cover you need

In the first step you register the guarantee amounts you need by stating the production quantities for each brand name and each type of device. You will be sent a payment notification online with the premiums and fees to be paid.

2. Transfer of premiums / fees due

To activate your insurance cover, transfer the amount shown in the payment notification to Aon Credit International.

3. Online despatch of insurance documents

Once the payment has been received, AIV, an agency belonging to the Aon Credit International group of companies, prepares your insurance documents and makes them available to you online. You will also receive a trustee contract, if you have requested one, which you must sign and pass on to ZVEI-Services GmbH.

4. Transfer your cover to the EAR

To transfer your guarantee amounts you have to inform the Waste Electrical Equipment Register (EAR) Foundation of the ZVEI guarantee number issued with the policy during the online registration in the “Guarantee ID” space and meet the requirement prescribed by law for reporting quantities.
